Costa Rica is heaven for adventure lovers. For a countless variety of adventure and extreme tours, Costa Rica is an incredible destination for eco-conscious travelers.

From pristine beaches to countless volcanoes and waterfalls with beautiful cultures, they all offer a perfect combination for vacations. Aside from those, many adventurous activities guarantee an adrenaline rush with a ton of fun.

Below you have the five most famous adventure activities to do in Costa Rica. We hope all the activities will be marked in your mind and will remain forever.

Ziplining

For any Costa Rica adventure holiday, ziplining is the best rite of passage. There are several ziplines, and every one of them is fast enough, long enough and extreme enough. If you are looking for such a place for an adventure tour that involves Tarzan swings, Superman Zipline, rock climbing and mini-bungees to ride upside down, Costa Rica is the ideal place.

Numerous places are the best option for ziplining and allow risk trackers to fly over the rainforest’s canopy. Some of the best lines are more famous for riding during the canopy tour experience and go up to 1.2 miles.

Arenal Volcano National Park is the best destination for ziplining, where you may zipline on the most extended tracks across treetops and mountainsides. The best time for ziplining in Costa Rica is April to November.

Volcano trekking

Don’t leave your tour from Costa Rica without venturing into volcano trekking. Besides the jungle, the volcanoes of Costa Rica give nature lovers an excellent chance for endless adventure.

The volcano trekking is pretty risky but family friendly. The best time for trekking is December to February on Irazu volcano and February to April at Arenal volcano.

The total volcanoes of Costa Rica are 67,  but only six are active.

Irazu volcano is the best option for a unique experience. This one has been quiet since 1996 and is the right area for walking from the parking area. The Arenal volcano is an iconic wonder in Costa Rica. The total height of this active volcano is about 1,670 meters, and it is situated in northwest Costa Rica.

The Arenal National Park arranges various hiking trails. You are likely to walk or climb over the older lava rock. The Volcano Poas is a popular and exciting day trip destination with a large crater and the largest geysers in the area.

Fishing

With knowledgeable locals, Costa Rica is the best for fishing and healthy water. Sport fishing is a popular activity in Costa Rica. Based on the season, you can go there with fishing instruments like the best crankbait reel for what you want to catch.

If you are thinking of going for a non-stop roller coaster ride on a raging river, you will have many  opportunities with numerous destinations. When you are going to try it for the first time, class I-III water is perfect for beginner level.

The Pacuare is arguably the best river. White water rafting is a world-class adventure with a better time to navigate the rivers during the rainy season when the rivers are flowing. The best time is December to May.

 

Hiking in Corcovado National Park

Hiking in Corcovado National Park is a must-do adventure activity for nature
lovers and outdoor enthusiasts visiting Costa Rica. The park is located on the Osa Peninsula and is considered one of the most biodiverse places on earth, home to an abundance of wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, jaguars, scarlet macaws and hundreds of species of birds.

There are several trails to choose from, ranging from easy walks to challenging multi-day treks. The park offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rainforest, with its lush vegetation and diverse ecosystems.

It is recommended to hire a local guide to enhance the experience and ensure a safe and enjoyable hike. They will provide insight into the park’s history, wildlife and culture and help spot animals that are not easily seen on your own.

Note that Corcovado National Park is a protected area and strict rules apply to help conserve its natural resources. Visitors must be prepared for hot and humid conditions and come equipped with appropriate gear, including sturdy footwear, insect repellent and plenty of water.
